Dyslexia or Specific Learning Difficulties?

These terms are often used synonymously. It sometimes helps a dyslexic child to know that he/she is bright and able but has a specific difficulty with literacy skills.

The word specific suggests a particular problem area that can be helped, as opposed to a general difficulty across the spectrum of learning. It is important to discuss these things with a dyslexic child rather that saying nothing and risk the continued feeling of failure and frustration.

They are often aware that something is not quite right, but they do not know why or what to do about it.
